Beautifully maintained and with variable draft, this Cape Henry 21 is designed for maximum freedom of navigation and achieves it with gorgeous lines and surprisingly good cruising performance - for a boat that you can keep at home and tow wherever you want to.
Built in 2009 to an exacting standard and well maintained since, the Dudley Dix designed Cape Henry 21 features a clinker-built hull in plywood-epoxy that has then been CopperCoated – a combination of classic, beautiful lines and durable, low-maintenance materials. Her build was recorded and published in Watercraft Magazine and many of her pictures and videos you'll find online - including test sails published in the magazine.
The swing keel makes all the difference: with a draft of only about 50 cm when the keel is retracted, you can access shallow waters, bays and inland waters that are inaccessible to traditional keelboats. With the keel down, she exhibits excellent sea manners, making comfortable passages along the coast or further offshore.
The gaff cutter rig, with a furling system on the jib and Genoa and two reefing points in the main, allow for flexible sailing and confidence when the wind picks up. She'll comfortably point to about 40 degrees and keeps a very respectable pace at all points of sail - really flying when across or off the wind. All running and standing rigging ropes were renewed in 2025.
Below deck, she offers four berths; two side and aft, with a large V birth in the bow. A small kitchen offers two gas hobs and a sink, integrated cool box, crockery and cutlery.
She has an astonishing amount of storage for a relatively small craft; week long adventures or more are comfortably achievable.
The 8hp Yamaha provides ample power to push her along through any adverse tide or weather whilst also charging the batteries. The batteries support the nav/anchor lights, depth sounder, new VHF, autohelm, sockets etc.
The twin-axle Lizzard Trailer has hull rollers to enable easy launching and recovery, supported by a powerful winch and launching extension bar (for gently sloped slipways). It's equipped with a fresh water rinse system to wash down the hubs after launching. Wheel bearings and brakes are new for 2026 and haven't been submerged. A custom lifting beam and straps are included to enable home lifting off the trailer if required for storage/maintenance.
A mooring in Pembrokeshire (approx. £120 per season) can be taken over if desired.
In summary, this is a beautiful and very capable little ship that is a joy to own and sail - offering excellent sailing capability whilst at the same time being convenient to keep and cheap to maintain.
