Platypus is a 1980 LM27, one of the most respected Danish-built motorsailers ever produced. Combining the pleasure of sailing with the security and comfort of an enclosed wheelhouse, the LM27 is an ideal cruiser for couples, single-handed sailors and anyone who enjoys extending the cruising season.
One of the boat's greatest features is the dual steering positions. Enjoy open-air sailing from the cockpit in fine weather, then simply move inside to the wheelhouse when conditions change, staying warm, dry and protected while maintaining excellent visibility.
Since purchasing Platypus, I have invested considerable time and money bringing her up to a high standard. She has recently completed a 500-mile coastal voyage, during which she proved to be a comfortable, reliable and capable cruising boat.
Recent work includes:
Bukh DV36 (36 hp) diesel engine inspected and serviced.
New raw-water pump impeller fitted.
Engine professionally realigned.
Cutless bearing replaced.
Through-hull fitting and seacock replaced.
Electrical faults rectified.
General servicing and maintenance carried out throughout the boat.
An insurance inspection carried out in May 2026 described her as a good example of the LM27, and all the urgent and many of the recommended servicing and maintenance items have since been addressed.
The LM27 is renowned for its solid Danish construction, economical cruising, forgiving handling and practical layout. With comfortable accommodation, excellent visibility from the wheelhouse and dependable Bukh power, she is equally suited to weekend trips, coastal cruising or extended adventures.
Platypus is afloat, ready to sail and available for viewing. She is only being offered for sale because we have completed our voyage from Portsmouth to Milford Haven where she is now moored.
The insurance inspection report and details of the recent work are available to genuine prospective purchasers.
